Before I go into why you should not waste money on a logo, let’s understand what a logo is and why we even need a logo. What purpose it serves.
What Is A Logo
The simplistic definition of a logo can be found in Wikipedia.
A logo is a graphic mark, emblem, or symbol used to aid and promote public identification and recognition. It may be of an abstract or figurative design or include the text of the name it represents as in a word-mark.
Why Logo Is So Important
Logo is a face of a company, business or product but the job of a logo is not limited to looking pretty.
- Logo is your Brand’s Identity’s Face
- Makes strong First Impression
- It makes you Stand Out from the Competition
- A logo builds Brand Recognition
Why You Should Not Get A Logo
You might ask, If logo is so important for an organization, why am I advocating to not waste money on getting one?
The real reason why a logo works, has got nothing to do with logo itself. It’s the branding which places a logo in the mind of the people. If you don’t have a road map to create and promote your brand than a logo alone is just a waste of money.
You have to understand logo is merely a face of a brand. If you don’t have a brand then a pretty face won’t get you far. It is just a part of a bigger puzzle.
This is one mistake most of the startups make. Because of lack of funds to hire a good branding expert, they throw up few shapes together and expect people to relate it with their Brand. Most of the time it damages the Brand Image, rather than improving it.
If you do not have money to hire an expert, I would say, you should save money and not get a logo.
